Are you a foster family, grandparent or other family member raising a child with a disability? Two virtual sessions for all foster families in Pennsylvania trying to navigate the special education system. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Role of Foster/Kinship Parent and Educational Decision Maker

  • Early Intervention

  • Special Education/504 Identification & Programming

  • Truancy & Discipline

  • Q&A with staff attorney from KidsVoice

Inscripción Medicaid and CHIP Renewal The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently announced new flexibilities to help keep Americans covered as states resume Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) renewals. These flexibilities were spelled out in a letter to governors, urging them to minimize avoidable coverage losses among children and families. “Nobody who is eligible for Medicaid or CHIP should lose coverage simply because they changed addresses, didn’t receive a form, or didn’t have enough information about the renewal process,” emphasized HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. Learn more about PA's CHIP program Learn more about Medicaid Eligibility from the Pennsylvania Health Law Project U.S. Departments of Education and Justice release resource on Confronting Racial Discrimination in Student Discipline On May 26, ED's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division (Justice) jointly released the “Resource on Confronting Racial Discrimination in Student Discipline.” The departments recognize and appreciate school administrators, teachers, and educational staff across the nation who work to administer student discipline fairly and provide a safe, positive, and nondiscriminatory educational environment for all students, teachers, and other educators. Additionally, the Department’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), Office of Safe & Supportive Schools Technical Assistance Centers released a series of fact sheets on how school leaders and members of school communities can support students' social, emotional, behavioral, and academic well-being and success.
